20/20 Vision: 20 things I want to do before I turn 20
Well, here I am, sitting in front of my computer with absolutely no time to spare and a stack of homework reaching well back into last term, so what should I start with? Writing that Smog article I promised myself I would a good two or three week ago of course. Unfortunately I have positively no idea what in the world I should write about. I guess I could ramble for a while about absolutely nothing if I wanted (I’m fairly certain I could get a good two-hundred and fifty so words out of that) or I could try focusing on something closer to home. Hmm…
You know, in my opinion, life as a teenager can be pretty darn stressful! No, no, relax, I swear I’m not going to get into a speech about how horribly bad my life is, in fact I’m planning to do the complete opposite, yeah my life is stressful but I love it. When your parents speak of the Golden Days (and yeah, it’s really weird when they do…) they aren’t referring to their mid-thirties, their thinking back to their Teens, the unforgettable roller coaster ride. Think about it, you can get your drivers license, legally drink, have the highest of highs, have the lowest of lows, fall in love, fall back on out of it, run wild, learn life skills, gain your independence, graduate and overall find your identity and become your own person.
After analyzing my life for a good minute or two I’ve really began to think (which is quite a first for me). This really is my prime time so how do I want to spend it before life gets too overly complicated or (more or less) before I’m too old? So I’ve spent the past…thirty minutes (Yeah believe it or not I’ve probably spent a good hour writing this) doing some research, looking into my hobbies, goals and inspirations compiling them into a list. Not a “Bucket List” (it’s a little too early for that) But a “Twenty-Things-Before-I-Turn-Twenty List” here it is:-

1. Fly a Kite – A fading memory from my childhood which I wish to re-live!
2. Ride a Rollercoaster – I believe this to be one of the scariest things I could ever do! But you know what they say, “You’ve got to face your fears.”
3. Dance the Night Away – No where special, just me and a couple of my mates partying on Wollongong Beach, who cares who sees.
4. Sleep under the Stars – I’ve never been camping before so this should be the experience of a life time.
5. Have a Snowball Fight – Slightly difficult here on the East Coast, but maybe I could take a road-trip before Uni
6. Read all Jane Austen’s Novels – People say this is an enjoyable and enlightening experience.
7. Form a Band – Can’t wait to propose this idea to the group
8. Learn a Foreign Language – Shouldn’t be too hard seeming the school offers four different ones
9. Chase the Ice Cream Van – I was deprived this enjoyment as a child, so I must live it out now.
10. Watch a lightning storm at Sea – A dream I’ve had since early childhood, firstly I must buy a boat…
11. Grow and Maintain a Plant (without killing it) – Seriously!! I’ve tried so many times…
12. Learn how to whistle – Don’t laugh, I’ve never mastered it!
13. Give up my Computer, T.V and Mobile for a Week – I can barley remember a time I didn’t rely on them for communications and/or entertainment; I must re- exercise my brain.
14. Eat a Snail – I tried once, and failed miserably!
15. Come top of a Class – For once I want to be the one walking up the stairs at those boring whole school assemblies (No offence to all those who actually receive awards – I do pay attention - Promise)!!
16. Visit a Third-World Country – Sure I’ve been overseas, but it’s always been in the modern world. I want to see the world in a different light.
17. Banish the phrases – “I’m too busy”, “I’m too tired”, “I don’t have time” and “I have too much work” from my lips. FOREVER - What more is there to say?
18. Volunteer – Giving up my time for a good cause, what better feeling is there?
19. Make an item of Clothing – I failed sewing (not literally but I my “Apron” looked more like curtain that had been run over by a car) so this is quite the challenge.
20. LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY, EVERY DAY!! – I can honestly say, I don’t appreciate everything in my life and I take a hell-of-a-lot for granted, but I’m going to try, and one day I will.
So there you have it, you now know twenty more things about me that you never knew before. I wrote this article for the pure enjoyment of it, but I guess the moral within it is – Work towards your future, of course, but don’t forget the little things that make life special, follow your heart and don’t turn back, this really is the time of your life make the most of it!!!
